WildMon joins Amazon.ia to advance biodiversity intelligence across the Amazon
We’re proud to announce that WildMon has joined Amazon.ia: Inteligencia Ambiental, a new Pan-Amazonian initiative working to transform how biodiversity is monitored, understood and used to inform conservation decisions across the world’s largest tropical forest.
The Amazon holds extraordinary biodiversity, yet those working to understand, manage and protect it often lack timely and comparable information about how species and ecosystems are changing. Existing monitoring efforts generate valuable knowledge, but data is frequently fragmented across projects, technologies and geographies, making it difficult to understand biodiversity change consistently and at scale.
Amazon.ia brings together Amazonian research institutions, conservation organizations, universities, environmental institutes and technology partners to address this challenge. The initiative aims to connect information from satellite observations, acoustic sensors, camera traps, environmental DNA and other sources within a shared analytical framework—helping transform biodiversity data into actionable intelligence for conservation and restoration across the region.
WildMon’s role in the collaboration
WildMon brings its experience in scalable biodiversity monitoring, ecoacoustics, AI-assisted biodiversity analysis, and working with conservation practitioners and local partners to turn complex biodiversity data into useful information for conservation.
As Amazon.ia develops, we look forward to working with partners to use WildMon’s expertise, technologies, and experience to contribute most effectively to the initiative’s broader goals. Areas of collaboration may include scalable acoustic monitoring and analysis, integration of different sources of biodiversity evidence, interoperable biodiversity information, and approaches that strengthen locally led biodiversity monitoring.
Amazon.ia has an ambitious vision: to make biodiversity change across the Amazon increasingly visible and actionable, while strengthening locally owned infrastructure, scientific and analytical capacity, and decision-support tools across the region. And that vision reflects a core WildMon belief: biodiversity data creates its greatest value when it is accessible to the people closest to nature and connected directly to conservation decisions.
We’re honoured to contribute alongside a diverse coalition of Amazonian research institutions, conservation organizations, universities and technology partners, including the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Instituto Humboldt, Instituto Mamirauá, MIT, Microsoft AI for Good Lab, Planet, Wildlife Insights, and the World Resources Institute.
